DEIRDRE O'LEARY & ALEC O'LEARY - guitar & clarinet
A concert of laid-back Brazilian lullabies, fiery tangos, graceful Scarlatti and riotous Klezmer. With the exquisitely tender guitar playing of Alec O’Leary and bewitchingly mellow clarinet lines from Deirdre O’Leary, this is one to treat yourself to. Having left his mark on the worlds of classical, jazz and Brazilian folk music, Laurindo Almeida thought nothing of juxtaposing all of these styles. Astor Piazzolla also bridged traditions, and brought on himself the scorn of his fellow Argentineans, when he incorporated elements of baroque music and jazz into his nuevo tango. This is a concert in homage to two very great 20th century South American musicians, and their iconoclastic visions.
