settlement of the 9-12th centuries.
There is a high cross, churches,

Blarney Castle

This impressive castle was
built by the MacCarthys in 1446. The
massive oblong keep with its 85 foot
high walls 12 foot thick at the base is
world famous for the Blarney Stone
set into
the battlements. It is said that
whoever kisses this stone will have
an everlasting gift of eloquence. Every
year more than 100,000 visitors put
this proud
boast to the test.

Craggaunowen lake dwelling

This model is an authentic reproduction of a typical
dwelling of pre-historic Ireland. Artificial islands
were made off-shore on lakes and the island
connected
to the shore by a removable bridge. They were known
as Crannogs.
