and nautical disasters in and around Cork Harbour
(from Youghal to the Old Head of Kinsale)
This
list has been generated from primary
sources. In written accounts - especially from the 17th and
18th Centuries, there was frequently, a severe time lag between the
event and publication. In many accounts there is a vagueness
of the actual date of occurence as well as a number of mistakes in the names of the vessels concerned.
Many of the early accounts are brief, simply because the reporting of them was sparse, with the same accounts, word for word, printed in a number of different publications (usually based on Lloyds List). Many of these events are worthy of further research.
