During the school year '00 -'01 Gilnahirk Primary, Belfast and the NDNSP, Dublin are sharing links using ISDN videoconferencing. You can read all about this project here.
We have been communicating weekly with Percy Julian School for the past 5 years. . Each link is for about an hour and we use our ISDN line which is sponsored by Eircom. Contact is made over the internet using their permanent IP address. This is an after school activity as the time difference means that we cannot connect during our school days. The children in Julian School come to school early and we stay late after school. We have been in contact with the Julian School class over the past few years and the children know each other so well now that they can chat to each other like old friends! The project submitted by 5th class in 1999 on Videoconferencing with Julian School came third in the Telecom Information Age Schools competition in 1999 and won £1,000 in computer vouchers for the school. Well done to all concerned!
We began links with Bernardsville Middle School, New Jersey in January 1999 and had Cu-SeeMe conferences with them on a weekly basis during the last school year. We began by using the Global Schoolhouse Reflector for these conferences. These were during the school day and were structured around a predetermined topic. During the school year '99-'00 we have been contacting each other by using the allocated IP no. which we email to Bernardsville in advance of the conference. We have debated such topics as advertising, whether cars are ruining our lives and have talked about hobbies, events that are happening in our areas etc.
We have had a Comenius Project with DeWadden School, Harlaam, Netherlands and with Grund-Und Hauptschule in Mildstedt, Germany. We have weekly links with DeWadden School, Harlaam, Netherlands. We use CuSeeMe software and are links are often based on music concerts that we perform for each other. They are great fun and very successful and are a good way to get around our language differences. We also use Netmeeting and the Whiteboard and this means we can do art work together. Read about these conferences.
We are registered with CU-SeeMe Schools.
We are also registered with Global SchoolNet Foundation.
