Gilnahirk Primary and the NDNSP - working together during the year 2002-2003
During the school year 2002/2003 children aged between 8-10 years in both our schools are reading The Gold Cross of Killadoo by John Quinn and are sharing ideas, artwork and writing with each other. The children made up the questions and answers for the crossword and the multiple choice quiz. This shared activity created by the children for each other is very much in the spirit of 'working together' - the essence of our project.
The children have keypals and are in regular email contact with each other. They share news, ideas and thoughts with each other.
The Gold Cross of Killadoo by John Quinn
"It is the summer of 990. On a vist to the monastery at Killadoo, Derval and her brother Eoin get caught up in a Viking raid. The Viking leader, One-Eyed Leif, plunders the monastery and steals the exquisite, priceless gold cross just completed by the monks. Derval and Eoin are kidnapped and brought to Dublin to be sold as slaves. The adventures that follow for Derval and Eoin and their attempts to recover the gold cross for the monks of Killadoo make an enthralling story and provide an entertaining insight into the daily life of Viking Dublin." published by Children's Poolbeg though currently out of print. We managed to find copies in the public library.
Here are some of the artwork we have done so far. These pictures are computer generated by children in Gilnahirk Primary:

These pictures were drawn by the chldren in 3rd Class NDNSP
Hazel in 3rd class NDNSP drew this picture while she was listening to the story.
This is Helga. Leif wanted to get the gold cross to make a wedding present for her.
Eoin and Derval were very frightened by Leif and Helga.
Gilnahirk Primary did some lovely art work using pasta. These crosses look amazing!
Here is a close-up - you can see how they were made
