Our Living Book Project during the School Year - '99-'00

In May 2000 the first phase of our project work began. Through dramatisation and discussion of the story of 'The Wildflower Girl' by Marita Conlan McKenna the children began to explore their common cultural heritage web based activities. Unfortunately the videoconferencing part of the project didn't get going in time for these classes but we look forward to beginning in September '00.

The Wildflower Girl by Marita Conlon-McKenna

A girl called Peggy (13) tries to make a new life for herself. She goes off alone across the Atlantic to America. The question is 'Will she ever see her family again?'. At the age of 7 she made a journey through famine stricken Ireland. Ellie is her older sister, Michael is her only brother. She lives with two aunties, Nanno and Lena but sadly Lena died. Her mother went to find her dad.

The Diary and some poems by Peggy - 3rd April 1845(created by Joanna, Emma R., Jane and Katie)
