Andy Warhol at the Irish Museum of Modern Art

Our Visit to the Museum by Fourth Class

Hello, I'm Jane Dempsey McMahon and I am here to tell you about an exhibition which is taking place in the Irish Museum of Modern Art. It is called the Andy Warhol Exhibition. In case you are wondering who Andy Warhol is - he is a famous artist. Anyway on the 23rd January 1998 my class went on a trip to IMMA and got a tour of it and we even got to do some of our own art work. Andy Warhol mainly did prints and some of his prints and paintings were of very ordinary household objects. One of his paintings was to my extreme likings - it messed with my mind and it made me think about good and evil, different people were on either the good side or the bad side and the spooky think was he put himself on the evil side.

Hello, my name is Robin Murray. Last Friday I went to IMMA (the Irish Museum of Modern Art) to see the Andy Warhol exhibition. His art is very strange. He did a lot of printing. Most of his picture were normal pictures from magazines with weird colours. He made pictures with Coca Cola, Campbells soup, Marlyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Heinz beans in them. We went into a workshop and printed desings on sheets of paper. My favourite picture was "the guns".

Hello, my name is Ellen Cooke. We went to IMMA on the 23rd January. When we got there we went in and were introduced to some of the people who worked there. Then we went into a workshop and did some printing. Then we got a tour of the museum. I think Andy Warhol is OK but he is very critical of other people who do paintings. For instance, he printed up two huge pictures of The Last Supper in pink and I think that it would be very annoying to Leanardo DaVinchi. He is also very crazy about colours but altogether it was a good trip.

Hello, my name is Caitriona Donohe. Andy Warhol is famous for doing prints of everyday things. For example, he draws Campbell Soup. He drew pictures of people and drew self-portraits of himself. I think it was a good idea to go to IMMA and we got to look at Andy's wallpaper and we got to say what kind of wallpaper we would like. He made wallpaper of a leader of China and is name is Chairman Mao. Andy Warhol is an American artist. I think IMMA is very good.

Hello, my name is Kevin Lynch. I thought the exhibition was brilliant. I am not surprised Andy Warhol is famous. We saw a can of soup that he painted. We saw some cow wallpaper - stripes of cow's heads. The man that showed us the exhibition asked us what wallpaper we would like to have and I said pink with purple polkadots.

Hello, my name is Katie Murphy. The first thing we saw in the exhibition was a picture of Campbell's chicken soup. It was kind of weird but it was better than some famous art I've seen. After that we saw prints of it but they had all different flavours. I can't really remember the order all the stuff we saw but I think the next thing was a copy of Leonardo DaVinchi's picture of The Last Supper and it was in pink. I said to myself 'What a weird thing to put in an Art Museum!'. Next we went to a room with a portrait of Chairman Mao and the wallpaper was prints of the mans face in PURPLE! And the best thing was they were just little faces and squiqqles! Next we saw a room wth luminous colours of cows!! I thought - maybe for a disco or something. We also saw his picture of Marilyn Monroe in different colours. I think that one was the best.

Hello, my name is Adam Brennan. I thought it was great, especially the Super Hero room and the cow room. I liked the $ signs as well and the soup tins. I thought the cow room was the very best because of the colours.

Hello, my name is Isaac Tobin. I think our clas is very lucky because we went to the Irish Museum of Modern Art. We got to do some art and look at Andy Warhol's paintints.

Hello, my name is Laura Aston. At the school in 4th class there was a bit of a panic even though everything was sorted out in the end. We got two buses to the exhibition. Carol-Ann, our teacher, split the class in half. One group went in the first and the other group went in the second bus. When we got there a man took fifteen people in to a room and the people who were left went to another room. We did printing first and rolled the paint. I got to roll paint as well but just for a few minutes. Then after that we saw some paintings. The first one was Campbell's soup. The we saw ten of those. Then we went into a room. It was called the cow room. Then we went into another room and a big picture of Chairman Mao was there. He was the president of China - he wasn't very nice. After that we did more painting and then we went home. It was great fun.

I'm Michelle O'Connor. The most interesting thing I saw was the cow room and the MONEY SIGN. I really thought it was cool. The pictures of this were weird but very clever and I still can't believe we got to do art in the art room.

I'm Una MacCoille. IMMA stands for Irish Museum of Modern Art. One of the things in IMMA now is work by Any Warhol. His work is very different - he printed things like Campbells soup or a Coca Cola bottle. When people first saw his work they thought that how could Campbells Soup be art. One of the pictures he printed was one by Leonardo Devinci. It was called the Last Supper. But to make a joke he printed two of them and made them pink so he could say that Leonardo DaVinci did one but I did two. He also printed wallpaper of pink cows and a yellow background. He got the cow picture from a newspaper and then printed them loads of times. Andy Warhol also printed wallpaper of Chairman Mao. On the wallpaper it had big pictues of him and then small pictures of him around him with purple faces.

My name is Neil Darling and I thought the exhibition was good even though I never heard of Andy Warhol before. My favourite picture was the one of all the characters like Superman, Dracula, Mickey Mouse and lots more people too. I thought the cow wallpaper was weird. I didn't know what kind of art the room with all the balloons in it was but it looked cool. I didn't know people painted normal things like Coke bottles but I thought the exhibition was exciting.

Hello, my name is Orla Gilligan Quinn. Andy Warhol was a very famous person for printing banal pictures like an ordinary Campbell's Soup can and a Coca Cola bottle. We went to see the exhibition at IMMA - that stands for the Irish Museum of Modern Art. It was very interesting to see that he can make art out of things that we take for granted. In the year of 1986 he died at the young age of 57. The Americans had lost a great artist. I really enjoyed the exhibition.

Hi, my name is Niamh Moriarty. In IMMA we went to the Andy Warhol exhibition. Andy Warhol is famous for printing a coke bottle and soup cans. If you don't know what printing is I will explain it. You make a stencil by cutting holes in cardboard and putting a piece of paper under your stencil and painting through the holes. You can make different kinds of print by getting a small piece of cardboard and sticking some twine on it and painting the twine and printing it on paper. There was a room in the exhibition with wallpaper all over the walls. It was called the cow room because there was pink cows with a yellow background all over the walls. It was everyone's favourite room. It was my favourite room too. We got to do our own prints too. I really enjoyed the Andy Warhol exhibition.

Hello, my name is Paul Kennedy. There was cow wallpaper and the man asked us what wall paper would you choose and I chose Celtic wallpaper. I think it was very good.

My name is Aaron McKenna and I think the Andy Warhol exhibtion is very updated to fit into the twentieth century. The first thing we saw was a tin of soup which was on a tall piece of paper and then we saw more tins of soup except this time it was on an A4 sheet of paper and there were ten of them. And they all had different flavours written on them. The second thing ws saw was wallpaper with a cow printed on it. The next thing we saw was the painting of an old Chinese President and wallpaper with that picture printed on it in purple.

Hi, I'm Michael O'Leary. I thought it was a very intersting exhibition. My favourite picture was the one with all the characters such as Superman, Mickey mouse, dracula and the witch out of the Wizard of Oz and plenty of other people too. I also thought that the picture of Chairman Mao was good if you went up close to the picture it looked like a scribble but from a distance it was excellent. I think that his Coca Cola designs are excellent. I mean, if you go out onto your street, there's bound to be a cola bottle on the ground and it's hard to believe it is his design.

Hello, my name is Ian Denham. Andy Warhol's exhibition was very good. He was very creative - from just a picture of a cow he made a great wallpaper design. He looked very weird and drew very modern pictures and worked very well with colours.

Hello, my name is Luke Brennan. I thought the exhibition was interesting and exciting. My favourite pictures were the guns because they were very detailed and I liked the colour. One of my favourite things about it was the workshop because I liked making the print pads and printing with them and it was fun.

Hello, I'm Joanna O'Byrne. I thought the Andy Warhol exhibtion was alright. The exhibition was in IMMA. It was lovely there and the exhibition was good too. Andy Warhol did a lot of printing in different colours. He painted lots of tins of Campbells Soup in different flavours. He also did a self portrait in red and black. The guide was polite and gave us enough time to look at the paintings. We also did printings in the workshops. There was a coffee shop and a gift shop too but we did not go into them. I quite enjoyed it.

Hello, my name is Taidgh McDonnell. We went to IMMA on Friday 23rd January to see the exhibition - Warhol to Wallpaper. I didn't think it was very good. We saw paintings of tins, witches, cows and mads. At least it got me off school!

Hello, my name is Emma Regan. I liked the way he printed. I liked his ideas and the way he painted modern life things. Rather than painting fancy people in fancy clothes he painted what he saw. I thought that was pretty clever. In the the exhibition we saw ten cans of soup. He used the same pirnt to do the can and the name of the product and then he painted the other bits that were different. We also saw a room that had cow wallpaper. It was in bright pink and yellow and I liked his sense of humour. All and all I enjoyed the exhibition very much. IMMA means Irish Museum of Modern Art.

Hi, my name is Emma Cantwell. I saw some prints that he did. We went into a room that had lots of cows on the walls. The man asked us what wallpaper we would like. I said that I wanted the Spice Girls wallpaper. I really enjoyed it.
