finally a news update ( was about time LOL ) 22 January 2002

The first time I saw a Cadbury Yowie was on Gatwick airport. I was on my way from Ireland where I live to my parents who live in the Netherlands. So that is how I bought and got into Yowies. But it took me awhile before I got the nerve to go on the Internet and on the UK Cadbury Yowie webpage. Because as many I thought it is only for kids and what should an adult do on this webpage.

Boy, what was I wrong

After I had my first swap with a very kind (now to be one of many) Yowie friend (PAUL) I really got hooked on them. He was the one that helped me getting my first series UK Yowies together, and introduced me to the Australian collections. Ok my collection is not yet as big as some of the other collectors I know through the web and UK Yowie talk, but you have to start somewhere. Through Yowies I have met many nice people.

A brief history of Yowies   (Thanks to Paul)

Yowies are Cadbury's answer to the Kinder Surprise eggs. The Yowie concept was invented in Australia by two guys, Geoff Pike & Bryce Courtenay both are well known writers down under. There main aim was to develop a collectable toy that could also be used as a teaching aid for children. Yowies first appeared on shop shelves in 1997 in Australia and in 1999 they appeared in England. For a more detailed history try a visit to:

http://nzyowie.homestead.com/mainpage.html

Yowies produced in Australia & England are different in that the Australian Yowies come as a multi part plastic figure were as the English Yowie is a one-piece solid figure. In Australia they have reached series four plus other limited edition pieces and now Australia have the Lost Kingdom series. In the UK and in Rep. Of Ireland we have series one, and series two arrived in the UK June 2000, in Ireland on August 2000.

The button below will take you to a site where there are a lot links of other yowie collectors. They will have either a Yowie website or contact address.

I WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND A VISIT TO THIS SITE.
