Alive-O3 Parish Resources

Church Teaching on Parish Catechesis

Requests are often made for alternative Services of Enrolment, Services of Light for use at Sacrament preparation times. Links to such resources as exist may be provided Go to Parishhere in future. Any recommendations will be gladly received.

Alive-O3 and the Parish

The programme makes the links most explicit in the Resource Pack in the Kit. Pages are made available here for use in the parish setting

  • •to make evident the parish's concern and engagement in the catechesis of children
  • to offer information to members of the community
  • to support and coordinate the efforts of those engaged in catechesis
  • to engage the prayer of the community for children of catechetical age

An Experiment in Catechesis

Provision of these resources is experimental. While the priority of catechesis in parish life has been written of and the Children of God Series has always asserted the necessity of catechesis in community, teachers, parents and priests engaged with catechesis have looked for more ways of linking those involved. Hence the kind of links offered in Alive-O 3. The Calendar of Events in the Resource Pack lists key events during the year where school, home and parish are involved together in prayer/liturgical celebration.

The reaction to their effectiveness will help to determine what resources can best be made available. Suggestions about non-text resources will also be welcome - uses of art, drama ...

The texts and suggestions offered might be used in a number of ways;

  • Sunday Liturgy, An Intention for the Prayer of the Faithful
  • Sunday Liturgy, Communion Reflection
  • Newsletters, Bulletins, Web-sites

Here are some of the texts for the first term. (Only those written specifically for the programme are included. Others are on the printed material in the Resource Pack).

Resources for Use in Parish

1 We Begin Together

Children begin a new year at school.

We ask God to bless all the children who have begun a new year in school and to help them as they grow and learn together.
2 Any Time

Children hear how time is a gift from God .

God, our Creator, We thank you for giving us your time; time to run, time to walk, time to start, time to stop, time to drink, time to eat, time to walk, time to sleep, time to laugh, time to cry, time for hello, time for goodbye, time to work, time to play, time to watch, time to pray. Thank you God, for your time every day. Amen.
3 Inside Time

God at the heart of all life.

God, creator and Sustainer of all life, you breathe the breath of life through our bodies each moment. Help us to be more aware of the wonder of life and to respect life in all its forms.
4 Time Moves On
5 We Belong Together
