Another First For St. Brigid's

The Minister for Education has approved the introduction of the Junior Certificate Elementary Programme. It is an additional Junior Certificate Programme designed to reach out more effectively to the small but important minority of students whose particular needs are not adequately catered for in the present Junior Certificate Examination.

It is being introduced in three phases beginning in September 1996 with up to forty five schools operating the programme.

St. Brigid's Post Primary School in Athy is one of the schools selected to be in this first phase.

The programme has been designed to ensure that young people can benefit from their time in school, and enjoy the experience of improvement and success.

As well as their Junior Certificates, students receive an individualised profile, giving credit for what they have learned and achieved, including skills and knowledge which are not currently recognised under the examination system.

Tegral; Sixty years in business

Many thanks to Tegral Building Products for their generous contribution towards new school equipment. This contribution was made to mark Tegral's 60th Anniversary. Tegral Building Products manufacture a range of roofing and building materials, and is a major employer in the Athy area.

On a recent visit to the Tegral plant it was most gratifying to see and meet with the many past pupils who now work at all levels within the company.

Congratulations and continued success to Tegral as we look forward to another sixty years of close co-operation between us and them.

New arrivals

Our thanks to Mr Kevin McNamara, Personnel Manager of HEWLETT PACKARD (Manufacturing)Limited who visited the school in October and viewed our I.T. facilities. We outlined our future plans for this area to him and he, there and then, offered a HEWLETT PACKARD 1600CM Colour Printer with the compliments of HEWLETT PACKARD to get us started.

Well the printer arrived on Friday November 22nd. and it was immediately pressed into service by the Desktop Publishing Class. The speed and quality of the output of this state of the art printer has certainly impressed all who have had an encounter with it since its arrival. Until you have experienced it, it is difficult to appreciate the vast difference a splash of colour can make to your finished documents.

Again, our thanks to Mr. McNamara and Hewlett Packard for their foresight and generosity, it is greatly appreciated.
