This local Family History Society was formed in April 1993. Monthly lectures are arranged for the 3rd Thursday of each month and these are detailed at: http://www.ballinteer.dublindiocese.ie/parish_bulletinboard.htm#Hist
The monthly meetings are held at 8pm. (February to June & September to November, inclusive). All who have an interest in researching their own family history are most welcome to attend our meetings.
Ballinteer is one of the seventeen townlands in the civil parish of Taney which has a total area of 4,556a.1rd.16p; besides Ballinteer these townlands include Balally; Churchtown Lower and Upper; Drummartin; Dundrum; Farrenboley; Friarstown; Kingston; Mountanville; Mountmerrion (or Callary); Mountmerrion South; Rathmines Great & Little; Roebuck; Tiknock; Trimlestown (or Owenstown) and for that reason the society has indexed Griffith's Valuation and the 1901 and 1911 census for the parish of Taney.

The aims of this Society are as follows:
To provide an informal and homely atmosphere towards family history research.
To create a repository in Ballinteer for material collected in order to assist participants with their research.
To foster an interest in the history of the locality of the family being traced.
To encourage participants to reflect this knowledge of local history in the story of their family environs of Ballinteer and the Parish of Taney.
To achieve these, the Society will endeavour to: -
Conduct lectures on a monthly basis.
Publish an annual journal in January of each year.
Be identified with other associations of similar aims.
The Society produces an annual journal entitled Gateway
to the Past in January of each year.
