Our Poems

We had a poetry week in school. Here are ten of our poems.

"Some are funny, some are sad, we hope you think they're not too bad!"

Please read them and let us know your favourite, and if there's anything in particular you liked about it.

We hope you enjoy reading our work.

Me and my Pizza, by Alex, 5th Class

Yummy, yummy, yummy, yummy,
I want a pizza in my tummy.
Make it hot, make it tasty,
Put it in the oven with its deep-pan pastry.
I don't care if it's bacon combo,
I don't care if it's cheese and tomato,
I don't care if it's ham and mushroom,
I just know I'll always want some!
With its mozzarella cheese,
And tomato puree,
When I see a pizza,
I just scream hurray.
So no woman or no man
Will ever come between me and my pizza,
Because Alex is its biggest fan!

My Baby Brother, by Jessica, 6th Class

Waa, waa,
What's that I hear?
Oh, it is starting to hurt my ear!
Oh, that crying is wrecking my head,
Why can't the baby just go back to bed?
Oh no, what's that smell?
It's so strong
It would ring a bell!
But just to see the smile from ear to ear,
And maybe baby shedding a tear,
He's really worth all the trouble,
And he's such a little dear!

Summer is Over, by Martin, 6th Class

The summer is over, winter is here,
The flowers are dead, the trees are bare,
The snow will fall, and it will be cold,
It's on with the raincoat, and do what you're told.
Now that it's winter, Christmas is not far away,
We look forward to Santa, and lots of play,
Then when it's over it's all in the past,
And we look forward to summer again at last.

Monsters, by James, 5th Class

Before I start to fall asleep.
I can hear the monsters quietly creep,
You can hear them laughing and smashing blocks,
They love to munch on smelly socks.
They follow me wherever I go,
Even when I'm playing in the snow,
They follow when I'm climbing trees,
And threaten that they'll give me fleas!

My Poem, by Gemma, 6th Class

Sometimes I feel lonely,
Sometimes I feel sad,
Sometimes I want to run away,
Because I feel so bad.
Sometimes I feel frightened,
And wish people could see,
That all I want to be is me.
Left alone to be myself,
I am a happy person,
I love to sing and love to dance,
I love to play and love to laugh,
And then I don't feel bad.

My friend who's gone, by Shannon, 6th Class

The man I've known for a very long time,
He was a friend of my mam's and a friend of mine,
It happened very quickly,
He was taken away,
I knew he was sick,
But it's still not okay,
I'll miss him a lot,
The friend of my mam's and the friend of mine,
I know I'll meet him
In the special time.

The Sun, by Machaela, 3rd Class

Bright,
Golden, shiny, blinding,
Yellow, sparkling, smiling, beaming,
Streaming, huge, ball
of flames, the
Sun.

The Sky, by Kerry, 3rd Class

Clear,
Sunny, bright, light,
Sparkly blue sky,
Rainy, cloudy, frosty windy,
Snowy dark,
Grey sky,
Churning out the weather.

Halloween, by Trevor, 6th Class

Halloween, Halloween,
It's the time when banshees scream,
Phantoms pop up in your face,
They'll make you run at enormous pace,
Witches fly around the moon,
With their tabby cat at the end of their broom,
I can't wait for Halloween night,
And you'll be sure
To get a fright!

The Polar Bear, by Nicole, 5th Class

The polar bear is big and white,
If you see him you'll get a fright,
He roars and screams
And growls and beams,
He's the scariest creature you've ever seen.
His big wide mouth and his big RROAR!!
Makes you call out for no more,
If the polar bear likes you too,
He will never, ever hurt you,
But if you ever meet a polar bear,
You better beware – you’re in for a scare!
