Seahorses

      have arrived!

 

Here at Lahinch Seaworld we are more than delighted to announce the arrival of four Atlantic Seahorses! It seems to have been a long journey from the original plan of sourcing them to their arrival last Saturday at midnight.  Now well settled in, these little chaps, actually two males and two females are feeding well so please be sure to take a look at them once inside. 

Seahorse facts for kids!

 

·      The scientific name for Seahorses, Hippocampus, actually means Horse caterpillar

 

·      It is the male that has the baby seahorses and not the female!

 

·      Seahorses can change their colour to match their surroundings or mood

 

·      Seahorses use their tales to ‘hitch’ onto seaweeds, rocks and other objects on the sea bed

 

·      You can tell a male from a female by the large abdominal ‘brooding pouch’
