BADMINTON
Congratulations to the St. Patrick's Badminton team who were very successful in the Cavan Schools Badminton tournament held in the Cavan Leisure Complex on Tuesday 21st March.
The team consisted of four pairs, who were selected from over 30 students who took part in trial games in the weeks before the tournament.
After careful selection, those selected to represent the school were Daragh Tighe and Thomas Kenny, Sean Connolly and Colm Quinn, Tomas O Keeffe and Patrick King, and finally Shane Reilly and Anthony Reilly. Niall O 'Gara was the team sub.
The first round saw two St. Pat's teams drawn against each other. Shane O Reilly and Anthony O Reilly were up against Sean Connolly and Colm Quinn. The Reillys from Killashandra came out eventual winners on a scoreline of 24-22.
This meant Sean Connolly and Colm Quinn went into the plate competition. This proved a blessing in disguise as Sean and Colm went on to win all their remaining matches and win the plate competition.

Darragh Tighe, Colm Quinn, Sean Connolly, Thomas o'Keeffe, Patrick King and Thomas Kenny.

In the main competition Shane Reilly and Anthony Reilly reached the quarter finals before being knocked out by a strong team from the Royal School. The other two pairs all made easy progress through the early rounds.

At the semi final stage they were unlucky to be drawn against each other. After a tough match, Daragh Tighe and Tomas Kenny came out on top.

Patrick King and Tomas O Keeffe fought an excellent battle, Patrick pulling off some classic drop shots and Tomas landing in some hefty smashes. But in the end the extra experience of Daragh and Thomas, who won the competition last year, paid off.
They then went on to win the final by two games.
So, St Pat's won both the main and plate competitions.

Well done to all who participated.

All Ireland Medal for Cian O'Reilly 1st land Medal for Cian O'Reilly 1st Year St Pat's Student.

St Patrick's College athlethes Fionan (5th yr.) and Cian O'Reilly (1st.yr) travelled to DCU in Dublin on March 4th to compete in the All Ireland Secondary Schools Cross Country Finals.
This competition began with Regional races which were held in Dungannon. Here Fionan won the Senior race and Cian was second in the junior category and together with the junior team they qualified for the Ulster Championships.

The Ulster Championshios were held in Mallusk, Belfast, during mid-term break and unfortunately due to illness a depleated Junior team of only three athlethes and Fionan travelled to the race.. Again Cian came second and in a very competitive senior race Fionan finished 12th. These placings qualified both O'Reilly's for the All Ireland Finals.

The All Ireland Finals attracted the top athelethes from the four provinces and each race had over 100 runners. In the junior race Cian finished in third position behind the Munster and Leinster champions, while in the Senior race Fionan met up with very stiff competition and finished 35th position.
Cian's medal winning position in the All Irelands qualified him for selection on the Junior Schoolboys Irish Team and he will travel to Stowe College, near Milton Keyes, England to compete in the S.I.A.B. International Cross Country which will be held on April 8th.

We wish Cian and the team every success.
