Mac Mail 2.0 - E-mail Client for Macintosh OS X

This tutorial covers how to create a new Oceanfree e-mail account in Mac Mail 2.0. Just follow the steps below:

Key Settings:

Incoming Mail Server =mail.oceanfree.net

Outgoing Mail Server =smtp.oceanfree.net - Only if you are using an Oceanfree dialup connection.

The outgoing mail (SMTP) server address for a BT Broadband / Anytime / Flat Rate / IOL Gold or IOL Surf No Limits internet connection is mail.iol.ie

If your internet connection is not one of the above please contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for the correct SMTP mail server.

 

Create a New E-mail Account:

Creating a new e-mail account is a simple task. Follow these steps:

On the Toolbar, click Mail and select Preferences from the drop-down menu.

 

The Accounts window appears.

In the bottom, left corner, click the + button.

 

The New Account wizard begins. This wizard will help guide you through the configuration process of your e-mail account.

Click the Continue button.

 

Account Type = Select POP from the menu.
Account Description = Give the account a name.
Full Name = Enter your name.
Email Address = Enter the e-mail address of the account you'd like to configure.

Click the Continue button.

 

Incoming Mail Server = mail.oceanfree.net
User Name = Enter your e-mail username (everything before the @).
Password = Enter the password to your e-mail account.

Remember: Passwords are case-sensitive. Ensure your Caps Lock key is DISabled.

Click the Continue button.

 

Do NOT enable "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)".
Authentication = Select Password from the menu.

Click the Continue button.

Do NOT check the option Use Authentication.

Click the Continue button.

 

Do NOT enable "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)".
Authentication = Select Password from the menu.

Click the Continue button.

 

The Account Summary window appears.

You can verify the information you've entered and click Go Back to make any necessary changes.

Click the Continue button.

 

That's it. Your account has been created.

Click the Done button to close the wizard.

 

Oceanfree e-mail accounts have a POP server mailbox capacity of 5MB. If the mailbox were to become full then no new messages can be received. Therefore after messages have been downloaded it is advisable to remove the stored copy from the server.

On the Toolbar, click Mail and select Preferences from the drop-down menu.

The Accounts window opens.

In the Account column, highlight the account you'd like to edit.

To the left, select the Advanced tab.

In order to receive or send e-mail, you must check Enable this account.
You'll also want to enable Include when automatically checking for new mail.

Check the option Remove copy from server after retrieving a message:

Select Right away

Port = The incoming mail server port should be set to the default of 110.
Authentication = The incoming authentication type should be set to Password.
