The aims
of the Transition Year are as follows -
- to provide
education for maturity with emphasis on social awareness and increased
social competence
- to promote
general technical and academic skills with an emphasis on interdisciplinary
and self-directed learning
- to provide
education through experience of adult and working life as a basis for
personal development.
Our students
are involved in outside activities which create a greater awareness of
the community and workplace. The course presents young people with the
opportunities for personal and social development through involvement
in such areas as public speaking, film studies, adventure trips, cooking
and so on. The year also allows students to take a break from the pressures
of the exam-related curricula, to become responsible young adults and
to make well-informed decisions.
