EAST WEST SCHOOLS PROGRAMME

Following the Good Friday Agreement, Micheál Martin, Irish Minister for Education & Science, announced a new initiative to strengthen school partnerships and to encourage friendship and understanding between young people in Ireland and Great Britain.

AIMS

To promote school partnerships and opportunities for transnational co-operation and mobility
To focus on young people and their teachers
To contribute to the professional development of teachers
To bring added value to the learning experience
To target the school in the widest sense
In August 2001 St Tiernan's Community School was awarded a grant under the East West Schools Programme to undertake a project with Peterhead Academy, Scotland, and were later joined by De Aston School from England as the third partner.

The staff and students involved in the exchange would like to acknowledge the financial assistance afforded by Léargas and appreciate their support for events such as our Evening of Irish-Scottish-English Traditional Music, Song and Dance on 14 March 2002.
