Educational outings are arranged on a regular basis by subject departments.

Transition Year students spend a week in the Delphi Adventure Centre as part of their character building programme. This takes place in the first term.

Fifth Year students can avail of a foreign trip in the second term. Previous tours have been to Russia, Austria, Germany, France and Denmark, plus skiing in Bulgaria. A number of our students have travelled to Italy, Scotland and Norway, where they have had a taste of the educational experiences of students from these countries, through a European Schools Co-operation Programme.

Tours are organised for each year group in the final term.

EAST WEST SCHOOLS PROGRAMME

Following the Good Friday Agreement, Micheál Martin, Irish Minister for Education & Science, announced a new initiative to strengthen school partnerships and to encourage friendship and understanding between young people in Ireland and Great Britain.

AIMS

  • To promote school partnerships and opportunities for transnational co-operation and mobility
  • To focus on young people and their teachers
  • To contribute to the professional development of teachers
  • To bring added value to the learning experience
  • To target the school in the widest sense
  • In August 2001 St Tiernan's Community School was awarded a grant under the East West Schools Programme to undertake a project with Peterhead Academy, Scotland, and were later joined by De Aston School from England as the third partner.

The staff and students involved in the exchange would like to acknowledge the financial assistance afforded by Léargas and appreciate their support for events such as our Evening of Irish-Scottish-English Traditional Music, Song and Dance on 14 March 2002.
