Athassel Abbey, near Golden
The largest mediaeval priory in Ireland, dating from the 12th century, very extensive outbuilding in a riverside setting.
Cahir
The Abbey of the Canons Regular of St. Augustine and dating from 1220. The choir and tower survive. The early Parish Church on Church Street (Clonmel Road) is of interest. A fine Church by John Nash overlooks the Suir at the north of the town.
Carrick on Suir Saint Molleran's Parish Church incorporated some remnants of the 14th Century Franciscan Abbey.
Cashel
The Rock of Cashel has a very ancient history, documented since the 4th Century. The large Cathedral, ancient round tower and the very early, Romanesque Cormac's Chapel stand witnesses to many of the stirring events of Irish History; St Patrick converted the local King, Aenghus, here in the 5th Century, Brian Boru was crowned King of Ireland on this spot in the early 11th century.
The vicar's choral has been restored and the site, one of the most visited in Ireland, now provides an interpretative centre, an interesting museum, guide service and superb views over the extensive and beautiful plains of Tipperary.

Also in Cashel and well worth a visit are Hore Abbey (Benedictine) and St. Dominic's Abbey. Access direct, admission Free.
Clonmel
St. Mary's Church, 13th Century although extensively repaired in the 15th century. The grounds are bounded, on two sides, by the mediaeval town walls and towers.
St. Patrick's Well and early church ruins near Clonmel. Interesting if almost eerie location, the spring waters are said to cure many diseases.
Emly
The parish church occupies the site of churches dating back to the original foundation by St Ailbe, who died in 527AD.
Fethard
Augustinian Friary founded outside the town walls in circa 1303. Desolved in the 16th Century, the friars returned early in the 19th cent. and have remained to this day.
The Holy Trinity Church and grounds are now enclosed by sections of the handsomely refurbished, mediaeval town walls.
Kilcash A delightful, romanesque doorway is the main feature of this small rural church where many of the Butlers of Kilcash are interred.
Kilcooley
Cistercian Abbey, one of the finest, if little known, abbeys. It features a truly delightful east rose window and an undisturbed air of rural tranquillity which belies its turbulent history.
Toureen Peakaun
An ancient monastic site which include a small church.
The Salmon and trout seasons open on the River Suir on the 1st of Feb and Ist of March respectively. Both close on 30th September.
The River Suir is a noted trout river with good salmon runs in the lower reaches.

Carrick-on-Suir
The Castle dating from 1450, is now fronted by the 16th Century Ormonde Manor House, the best example of an Elizabethan Mansion in the Country. The Splendid stucco medallions depicting the heraldic motifs of the Ormonde Family are a feature of the imposing long gallery. Guide Service.

Tipperary, famous for it's horses is a mecca for the equestrian enthusiast. Trekking and trail riding over farmland, forest and mountain is available as are cross country course designed to please the more experienced rider.

Fethard
Folk, Farm and Transport Museum is housed in the former railway station. More than 2,500 items have been assembled and many are displayed in their correct context within a series of reconstruction's. Killenaule
Slieveardagh Heritage Centre opened in 1995. Housed in a former 19th cent. church, the Heritage centre tells the interesting story of the area which has had a varied and chequered history.

A 9 ft high pillar stone with crosses on two faces in suitably named Giantsgrave off the N24. Sign-posted.
Coolbrook
This area of the Slieveardagh Hills was the centre of extensive coal mining in the 19th century. Many items of industrial archaeology are to be seen.
Glen of Aherlow
In the Glen are a number of significant early field monuments notably Saint Berrihert's Kyle and early religious items in the Toureen Peakaun site.

The Commons
Birthplace of the National Flag. A large memorial stone marks the location of the first raising of the familiar green, white and gold tricolour in 1848. A local committee continue the tradition of raising the flag in the village each morning.
Dundrum
The Celtic Planetarium has as main features; 60,000 plants containing over 2,500 species of tree, plants and shrubs; miles of paths and walkways; waterfall, fresh water lakes many with decorative fish. Their Celtic theme items include crannog, dolmen, fairy fort and a reconstructed cairn.

Mostly they date to the 8th and 9th century. Notable examples are at Ahenny, near the interesting Slate Quarries, where a unique festival in 1992 has given rise to a large number of modern, outdoor sculptural displays.
