Welcome back to another year in Togher NS!! We hope you all had a very enjoyable Summer Holiday, despite the weather.
Best wishes to last years 6th Class pupils, good luck in Secondary School. And congratulations to our past pupils on their great results in their Junior and Leaving Certs.
Last year was an incredibly successful one for the school, and we’re off to a very good start again this year, with a national competition winner in our ranks already!! Congratulations Molly! You have set a fine example for us all to follow.
Happy Halloween! Watch out for the ghosts and witches! Let us hope there are lots of treats and not too many tricks!!
As always a huge Thank You to all the Parents who have given so willingly of their time. We are truly grateful. We couldn’t do without you. Happy holidays to you all. From the Staff & Pupils
We would like to welcome all the new children and their families to the school, to the school community. They are all very welcome to Junior Infants, they’re settling in very well. In other classes, we welcome two new pupils, who have moved here from other schools.
We have two new teachers in the school, a new Resource Teacher, and a new DEIS Rural Co-ordinator for this year.
Come along to the Coffee Morning on Friday 24th October. It will be a great opportunity to meet the staff and other parents. (But watch out for ghosts and witches!! The Infants & 1st Class are having a Halloween Party!!).
History in Action!!!
History Lessons got off to a great start, with a visit from Heritage specialist Michael Moylan. A visit from Michael is “like visiting a museum”. He came armed with costumes, artefacts, tools and weapons, from all ages of Irish History, from the Stone Age, the Celts, the Vikings, through the Middle Ages and the early years of the Irish Free State, right up to the World Wars of the last century.
Michael is a masterful story-teller, whose fun and down-to-earth approach, makes learning history lots of fun.
All-Ireland and Cork County Road Bowling Champions Visit the School
We were absolutely delighted earlier this month when we were visited by three All-Ireland Champions and one Cork County Champion Road Bowlers. They were Lorraine Hurley, Eilish Murray, Micky Hurley and Aileen Murphy, respectively. What made it even more special is that two of the All-Ireland Champions are past pupils of the school—Lorraine and Micky. We are so very proud of them, and so grateful to them, and to Eilish and Aileen, for coming in to visit us. It is inspirational for the children to see how hard work and dedication can pay off.
CYCLING SAFETY CLASSES
We’ve almost completed our Cycling Safety Classes for this year, and yet again this was a great success and very popular with the children. Hopefully we will be able to do this again next year, as 2nd Class are raring to go and were disappointed that they were too young! Thanks to Cork County Council, and to the SCP, for the help in funding this programme.
Table Tennis
Table Tennis classes have started again, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.

Health promoting School
We will be carrying on with our Health Promoting School project, but this year, we will be planting in and around the school grounds. This will make it much easier for the children, especially those in the infant classes, to see how their plants are growing.
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Siobhan and George for the use of their garden over the last two years. And thanks too to Sarah for all her hard work co-ordinating the garden project.
It is not all work……there is fun too!!!
When Molly and her class mates went off to see Annie last week, the children who were left in school had some fun of their own. The children in Mrs Keanes class got to work and made some very delicious pizzas, (topped with lots of healthy veg!!), which they shared with all the other children in school. The children in Ms Dalys class, went off to the garden to pick pumpkins and beans. It was all very exciting. While they were there, they heard the story of Jack and the Beanstalk, and there may even have been a few sightings of giants and magic harps!!! Luckily, there was no climbing of beanstalks involved.
Christmas Craft Fair
Once again, we are planning to hold the Christmas Craft Fair. This will be our 9th year.
The Craft Fair will be held in The Parkway Hotel on Sunday 7th December.
If you would like to help out, either with the planning stage or on the day, you’d be very welcome! A letter will be sent out soon, detailing how you can help.
The next Parents Association meeting will be on Tuesday 11th November at 8pm, and all are welcome.
