Class Activities
We did many “potato-related” projects in Class. We researched potatoes on the Internet, then used the information we found out to complete projects about potatoes in several different subjects – Science, History, Geography, English, Irish, Cooking and Art. We even learned how to say “potato” in many different languages!! Here are some examples of the Class Activities we carried out.
Cooking with Potatoes
We looked at many different types and varieties of potatoes. We also talked about products made from potatoes, for example:
Potato waffles
Chips
Crisps
You can cook potatoes in many different ways. You can boil, steam, mash, chip, sauté, bake or roast them! They are used as the base ingredient of many countries national dishes. Using our three chosen varieties of potato, namely Whites, Roosters, and Golden Wonders, the children cooked three different dishes.
The first was Spanish omelette. We also cooked the
traditional Irish dish of colcannon. We used peas instead of cabbage in the recipe. We also cooked champ, another traditional Irish dish.
