Togher N.S.
Togher National School is a five-teacher school at the foot of the Shehy Mountains, six miles north of Dunmanway in a scenic area. There are 53 pupils on role at present.
The school was built in 1939. It was refurbished on its 50th anniversary and transformed into a modern, more comfortable school. The school is the hub of the area. A new extension of two classrooms, staff room and store room was completed in 2001. Minister for Health and Children, Michael Martin TD, performed the official opening of the new extension at the school in April 2001. The school has community uses outside school hours being the only facility available in the area. Many young families have settled in the area in recent times.
The Curriculum of the school consists of Irish, English, Mathematics, Religion, Music, Drama, Geography, History, Elementary Science and Environmental Studies, Physical Education and Art & Craft. There are 8 classes and 3 class teachers, Mary Keane, Helen O' Connell and Majella Daly. We have a full time Learning Resource teacher : Richard Swann. We have three S.N.A.s in our school : Mary Cullinane-Sexton, Heather Jacob & Valerie O' Leary. There is also a visiting learning support teacher. School opens at 9.10a.m. and finishes at 2:50p.m.
