We did some great experiments on Static Electricity. We charged both balloons on one side with electricity by rubbing them to a woollen jumper.
We hung the balloons so the two charged sides faced each other. We discovered that they never came together and they always repel each other.
We also experimented with a comb and pieces of paper. We discovered that two like charges repelled one another - and different charges attract.
We also created an Electroscope and tested for the presence of electricity.
To make the Electroscope, push a piece of wire through the lid of the jam jar. Bend up one end and drape a this piece of foil from a sweet wrapper it. Crumble a ball of aluminium foil around the other end. Rub a plastic pen with a piece of wool, and then hold it over the foil ball. If the pen is charged, then the sweet wrapper will move.
