Percy French

In August 1984 this memorial doorway to immortalise the memory of Percy French, was erected by the Roscommon Historical & Archaeological Society on the site of his old home in Clooneyquinn, about 2km north-west of Tulsk Village. It consists of a bust and commemorative plaque set in an arch, and happily incorporates the original doorstep of the house.

Perch French, engineer, songwriter, artist, and journalist was born in Clooneyquinn on May 1st 1854 and died in Lancashire on January 24th 1920 after four years of declining health.

His songs have reached a worldwide audience and though humorous they show a very genuine affection for Irish country people
