Ogulla Well

According to legend Saints Eithne & Fidelma were baptised at Ogulla Well by St. Patrick during his visit to Ireland in 432 A.D.  The Well is now a well established place of pilgrimage with hundreds of visitors calling there every year.  The Bishop of Elphin traditionally celebrates Mass at the Well on the last Sunday in June each year.

In 1980 the Ogulla Well Committee bought the plate glass and steel girders which surrounded the altar at which Pope John Paul II celebrated Mass during His visit to Knock Shrine in 1979.  The octagonal structure was transported from Knock and rebuilt beside Ogulla Well with the help of local voluntary labour.  An altar now rests within the building and visitors are often seen praying within.
