Double the Pain...Double the Punishment

Scotty Ace & the Batten TwinsFebruary 4th, 2004

I first met Bart and Brad, the Batten Twins, in 1995. We both were booked on a show in Huntington, Wv for a local idiot promoter. It was the first night of a three day 'loop' for this promoter [and I use that term loosely], and the twins were only booked for this show. They worked a guy from WCW named the Gambler and his partner, who happened to be the promoters brother. Luckily for them, the Gambler stayed in the ring most of the time, and they were able to pull a decent match out. This would not be the last time that I would see this happen.

Let me back up a little. Bart and Brad were both 3 sport stars at their local high school, and both went on to play college football. After college, they joined the ranks of the old ICW - owned by the Poffo family. They immediately became the ring crew and would train under Randy Savage and Lanny Poffo for many, many months before being able to actually get into the ring for a match. [My, Oh My, how times have changed!!!]

After their initial stint in ICW, they began to travel the country, working at various times for the Von Erichs and World Class in Texas, Jerry Lawler and Mid South in Memphis, the NWA in Missouri [they actually represented this promotion in the original Crocket Cup tag team tourney in New Orleans in the late 80's], and did a couple of tours of Puerto Rico for Carlos Colon. The Twins were considered one to the best 'working' teams in the world.

For the last 20 years, they have continued the tradition that they were taught by the Poffo's and the other great performers of our time.

In 2001, they joined me in producing and running a weekly tv show, featuring our entire NCW crew. Having them in the locker room, and in the ring, helped our product grow. Our show featured veterans like Bull Pain, Ricky Morton, Tracy Smothers, Todd Morton, the 'Stro and others. But more importantly, they helped train some of the best 'future stars'...most notably Andy Douglas of the Naturals.

If was a great pleasure for me to watch the Twins in action. Whether in front of 5 people in Johnson City, Tennessee or 7,000 in Hardeville, South Carolina...They always gave 100%.

The Batten Twins still work just about every weekend somewhere here in the states. If you get a chance...just watch and listen. You will learn a lot!

The Batten Twins...Double the Pain...Double the Punishment.

Keep the Faith!
