Demolition Ax - Cutting through the Competition

Demolition AxFebruary 29th, 2004

In the late 1970's, WTCG [now Superstation TBS] made it’s debut on our local cable companies list of channels. It brought many things to our southern Ohio community like Bill Tush, Braves baseball [which I despise] and of course - Georgia Championship Wrestling. With the golden tones of Gordon Solie calling the action, it was as if a whole new world was opened up to me and my friends. For the first time in my life, I was able to watch "real" Superhero’s and Evil doers every week at 6:00 - 8:00 on Saturday night, and again on Sundays at 6:00. For a boy of 10 years old, this was enormous!!!

At that time, my main heros were guys like Wahoo McDaniels, Tommy Rich, Dusty Rhodes, Mr. Wrestling II, and Tony Atlas. Their evil counterparts were led by Ole Anderson, Ivan Koloff, Bobby Heenan, Blackjack Lanza and of course, The Superstar. [He was known as the Masked Superstar in the Apter mags, as to not offend the WWWF and Superstar Billy Graham]. I still remember the very first show of GCW that I watched. Superstar attacked Wrestling II after a match, and applied the Cobra. He just wouldn’t let go...jobber after jobber attempted to get him to relinquish the hold...but NO...He just wouldn’t do it. Finally, he released the hold, but only after Wrestling II has blood dripping out of his mouth, and onto his white mask. I was hooked!!!!

About a decade later, and after being the main heel for both GCW and Mid Atlantic wrestling, The Superstar removed his mask [although no one really knew that it was him!] And became ½ of Demolition, or Demolition Ax. His reign of terror continued in the WWF for 3 or 4 years until he finally left. [His lawsuit was settled about 3 years ago over the Demolition gimmick and his promise of future employment with the WWF]. He still continues to do indy shows, mainly as Ax, but occasionally donning the black mask and becoming the despicable Superstar.

The last time I worked with Bill Eadie was in 2001. Myself and Beau James had been talked into a joint venture with Main Event Championship Wrestling. After months of lies and broken promises about all of the "great" talent that they [MECW] would send to us, Beau and I were left with putting together our own shows. Our 2 day loop started at the Civic Auditorium in Kingsport, TN. I can still remember looking across the dressing room and seeing The Superstar in his black mask and black shirt. It sent chills down my spine. The next night was Huntington, WV at the Field House. Bill worked as Demo Ax this night against my charge Bull Pain for the NCW title. The results of both nights are unimportant. What is important is this - Bill Eadie is a true professional who has dedicated his life to this business. He always treated me with respect and dignity, and will forever be the first true "heel" that I ever despised. His stories of the road include most of the greatest names that this sport will ever have...Guys like Andre the Giant, Big John Studd, the Road Warriors, etc... The list is never ending. During his prime, this guy was always on top.

Next time...Sweet Scotty looks at "Something Else" ... or is it the Storm Bringers? Tune in and I’ll explain!

Keep the Faith!
