Something Else... or is it the Storm Bringers?

The Storm BringersMarch 4th, 2004

On Labor Day in 1997, I had the distinct honor [sarcasm] of working an outdoor show for promoter in Pikeville, Kentucky. The show was at a local music legends horse farm. The ring was set up in the middle of the outdoor horse rink, right on top of the horse sh*t and sawdust. The "heels", which included me, dressed in an old school bus, while the faces had the luxury [again, sarcasm] of getting dressed in an old beat up conversion van. Man, I had finally hit it big time!!! The day really sticks in my mind for 2 reasons.

Number 1...I got a speeding ticket on the way home that was about triple my payoff, and # 2, I met the Storm Bringers for the first time. John Noble & Eddie Browning would eventually become very good friends of mine...guys that I spent many hours and even weeks on the road with. They originally wore black masks and did the Storm Bringers gimmick for an obvious reason - both were local school teachers and coaches, and them being wrestlers wouldn't sit to well with the locals. Eventually, they removed the masks, and became Something Else. They started working "face" in their home area of Hazard, KY, but for me, the usually worked "heel", and normally feuding with the Batten Twins and myself. Both Johnny and Eddie take their craft very seriously. I watched them grow every time they got into the ring with the Twins, and Death & Destruction

In 2000, the 3 of us, along with Killer Kurt, ventured to Kingsport, Tenn and Beau James promotion known as Southern States Wrestling. We worked an invasion angle, and began taking over SSW television, with James turning face to "defend" the SSW promotion. Johnny and Eddie were over big time as heels, with me by their side. For over a year, we made the 4 hour trip to Kingsport on a semi-weekly basis. From football matches, to steel cage rumbles, Johnny and Eddie worked them all.

Eventually, we would start NCW Rampage in KY, and our weekly show featured Johnny & Eddie as the "face" tag champs. Eddie would finally turn on Johnny, and they began a feud that lasted about 6 months.

I have many, many fond memories of working with these guys. From trips to Canada, South Carolina, Nashville, and others...these guys are classic. Johnny will forever be "Mr. Birthday" to me, and Eddie will always be a great friend.

Whether they were the Storm Bringers or Something Else...they were always 1st class.

Next Time...Sweet Scotty looks at the Iron Sheik...the biggest crack head on the planet!

Keep the Faith!
