The Biggest Little Man or The Southern
Shooter
February 12th, 2004
Todd Morton first walked into the Carl Perkins Center in Morehead, Kentucky in Feb of 2001.
Bull Pain had called about 2 weeks prior, and wanted to know if we could use Todd for our
TV show [NCW RAMPAGE]. We could always use a good veteran to help us along, so Todd would fit in just fine.
Todd started off with us a baby face. He, along with Tracy Smothers, Andy Douglas and
"Something Else" [Johnny Noble & Eddie Browning] would be the core of our face movement for the next several months. He would become our first Mid American Champion, beating
Frank "The Tank" Parker in the tourney finals in Point Pleasant,
WV. He would fued with Beau James over the strap for several months, and would eventually turn heel and join myself, Bull Pain, and
Mitch Ryder as the "Cutthroats".
To me, Todd respected the business as much as anyone that I had ever met. He broke in during the late 90's in Tennessee after being trained by
Bill Dundee. He worked for the Fuller family in Knoxville, and I will never forget him getting
Momma Guerrero's hot salsa thrown into his eyes by Hector Guerrero, starting a tremendous
feud.
Todd's lefthanded chops rival anyone in the business. What I like most about him is his ability to 'sell' - a true lost art!!! If you have ever seen him take a piledriver
[he looks like he has been shot out of a toaster], then you know what I mean.
I was the one who put the "Southern Shooter" moniker on him. He was reluctant at first, but grew to tolerate it.
Todd always worked his butt off for me...and I will forever appreciate it.
Next time...Scotty Ace looks at Demolition Axe/Masked Superstar.
Keep the Faith!
