A clean energy windfarm at the site where a nuclear power plant was proposed by the E.S.B. in the 1970s, was completed on time in October of 2002. Hundreds of tourists visited the windfarm site to see the turbines being constructed.

The new ESB windfarm at Carnsore Point, Co Wexford, will generate enough renewable electricity to power 10,000 homes. This project will avoid the need for the importation of 7,200 tonnes of fossil fuels, per year, for the generation of electricity.

The wind farm will avoid approximately 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions which would be produced from other conventional power generation.

The 14 wind turbines, with a total generation capacity of 12 megawatts, have been erected on a site owned by ESB at Carnsore Point. The turbines were brought in from the manufacturers in Denmark and Scotland. The site was the location for a proposed nuclear power station in the 1970s, a project which was abandoned.
