Community Radio Youghal Website. THERE IS NOW A NEW WEBSITE FOR CRY - www.youghalradio.com TO LISTEN TO CRY LIVE ON THE INTERNET CLICK HERE See www.youghal.ie for details of Kathleen and May visit. Broadcasting to Youghal Town and the surrounding area (Ardmore, Clashmore, Kinsalebeg, Knockanore, Killeagh, Inch and Ballymacoda amongst other places) on 104fm, Community Radio Youghal went on air in October 1995 as one of eleven stations licensed by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland under the pilot scheme for community radio stations, and in June 1998 we were granted a five-year broadcast license. Having had a previous existence as a pirate station it is nice to be 100% legal. Like all community radio stations, we are a not for profit organisation and rely heavily on the goodwill of the community and businesses in the area to provide us with funding and other resources. From our studio in the League of the Cross Hall, we broadcast 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. The range of programmes is almost limitless and includes current affairs (mainly local issues but including national issues that have a local impact), women's issues, classical music, items of local historical interest, sports, Country & Irish music, traditional Irish music and much much more. We provide live coverage of major local sporting events, St Raphael's Open Day and any special events that crop up from time to time. Listeners are also kept up to date with reports of Youghal Town Council meetings. The board of directors is drawn from the community and currently includes representatives from Youghal TC, the Parish, Youghal Community Development Project Group. The nitty-gritty management of the station is undertaken by a five member management board which is appointed by the board of directors with the Station Administrator taking day-to-day decisions. The station is staffed by participants on a FÁS Community Employment Scheme and over 40 volunteers who represent local community groups and sports clubs. Our aim is to inform and entertain the community who "own" the station, and to be an outlet for the many clubs and associations in the area. To this end we are always on the lookout for people and clubs who want to help us out with programme material, event coverage, fund raising etc - the list is almost endless. If any of you web surfers are from Youghal and the surrounding area and have any news - births, deaths, marriages and such like - e-mail us and we would be delighted to broadcast it. Our signal reaches about 5 miles from Youghal so if you have friends or relatives, or even enemies!, in the area why not e-mail a request for them.
